I chose the American studies FLC for a couple of reasons. One of the main reasons i chose the american studies FLC was because history and english have always been my strong subjects so i figured for my first semester in college it would be a good idea to take classes that would be comfortable. Also last year i took AP english so hopefully the english classes won’t be too overwhelming. i did manage to get a three on the exam, so i think it should be alright. I chose to do an FLC mainly because at incept they strongly encouraged doing a FLC and i liked the idea of knowing i would know other people in all my classes.

diagnostic essay
In the upcoming election there is a lot of controversy. Whether its debate over the candidates views, or the candidates themselves this election is promising to be a historical mark. On a lot of the traditional hot topics that are found in every election, such as abortion, capital punishment, and taxes, I’m usually middle of the road. Whether I support the issue depends on specific situations. One subject I do have a strong, one sided opinion on though is the war in Iraq. The subject of the Iraq war is what I consider the most important issue that is taken into account for the upcoming election.
There is a lot of controversy over why America is over in Iraq. The initial reasons we were given for being over in Iraq have been proven false. The present administration, and the former administration have been questioned on decisions and motives that have brought us to the current situation. But no matter what has taken place we are still faced with the fact we are still in a war. The upcoming election inevitably has a significant effect on the direction the war will take.
Neither side democratic or republican want war, but both sides have taken a different approach to how the war should be handled. McCain, being a republican and having served in the military during Vietnam see necessity in staying over in Iraq and continuing to maintain the situations there. Obama, on the other hand is, looking to remove the troops from Iraq, and with the majority of the American public in great opposition to the war, the removal of the troops is a popular idea.
I personally support McCain as being the candidate who can most appropriately handle the war. I do not like having war, and hate having people losing their lives for a war that should have not ever taken place, but the bottom line is there is a war, and we need someone in office who can take care of the war in a reasonable fashion. McCain has the military experience to have a better under standing of what is going on over in Iraq. The Iraq war is often compared to the Vietnam war. Which should clue people in on how it should be handled. The Vietnam war America pulled out losing everything that she had worked for. People felt that there was no winning the Vietnam war, it could have been put because of the lack of popularity of the war among the American people the administration was unable to take the steps that would have lead America to victory. The Iraq war is very unpopular among the American people, America is running low on troops, and unlike Vietnam there is no draft to continue to supplement the troop demand in Iraq. So the military has moved on to the reserves, and even the reserves are running down. There are a lot of elements that are against the continuation of the war. But if America pulls out now, it will be just like Vietnam where everything she worked for will be lost. McCain has the right idea on how to handle the war. The main reason I support McCain is because of how he conducts himself when speaking of his plans on how he will handle the war.
The most important component of this upcoming election is how it going to effect the war. McCain is the most suitable of handling the war.
